Senior Speaker Selection
The President’s Office, in conjunction with the Dean of Students Office, administers the annual Student Undergraduate Commencement Speaker Selection. Applications are currently being accepted for the student speaker role at the upcoming All-University Commencement ceremony this May 2025.
Guidelines:
To apply to be the student speaker, you must be an undergraduate student. Please write a five-minute speech for delivery at All-University Commencement. Your remarks ought to tell the audience what your education at the University has meant to you and what the future might hold for you and the other members of the Class of 2025.
You should make one or two serious points about how your education has shaped your life, but you should also leaven your words with wit and grace.
Please do not rely on clichés or hackneyed phrases; be unique and represent the true style of your graduating class.
This speech should be appropriate for All-University Commencement and should reference experiences that go beyond individual schools and colleges.
Before submitting your speech, you should read it aloud, slowly and clearly, and time yourself. The speech you submit should not be longer than five minutes. (Texts that cannot be read clearly within that limit will be disqualified.)
How To Submit:
Please send your speech as a PDF via email to dos@bu.edu by the deadline stated below.
Deadline:
Monday, March 17, at 5 pm
Process:
A committee of faculty will review submissions, and finalists will be invited to deliver their speeches before them in late March. This committee will then select the student speaker.
