Shamrock and Roll – March 2026

The following message was sent to all students on Friday, March 13, 2026, from Dean Campbell-Foster.

When the city turns shamrock-green bright,
And the parade fills the streets with delight,
Have fun with your crew,
But be thoughtful there too —
Let your neighbors sleep soundly that night.

Dear Students,

I hope you’ve had a restful spring break. For those who spent time away, we look forward to welcoming you back to campus over the next few days. Spring is in the air, and this weekend marks a celebratory time in Boston. The city turns green for St. Patrick’s Day.

As you head out, remember that being a BU student means representing this University and our community everywhere you go, including the streets of Boston and in the neighborhoods many of you call home.

Before you go…

Think ahead.
Know where you’re going, who you’re with, and how you’re getting home. Share your plans with someone you trust and check in with one another throughout the day.

Look after each other (and yourselves)
BU’s Good Samaritan policy exists for a reason. If someone needs help, get them help. No one should hesitate to call for assistance out of fear of getting in trouble. Know how alcohol affects you, keep your beverage in sight, and stay hydrated.

Respect our neighborhoods
Many of you may join the festivities in Southie or choose to stick close to home and be with friends in nearby neighborhoods. Remember that families, residents, and visitors share these streets with you. Keep noise down, avoid overcrowded gatherings, and be mindful of sidewalks, streets, and property. Being a good neighbor goes a long way. Special note: the Boston Police Department shared this message with all college students. Please read it here

Know your limits and stay grounded
Stay off rooftops, overcrowded decks, and away from open windows. Injuries from falls are among the most common (and most preventable) of this weekend every year. Stay on solid ground, literally and figuratively.

If you ever need support, turn over your Terrier Card for the numbers you need to call for help. Enjoy the weekend, celebrate responsibly, and look out for one another.

Take care,
Jason Campbell-Foster, EdD
