Student Speaker at All-University Commencement – May 2026

The following message was sent to all students who have or are expected to graduate in January, May & August 2026 from Dean Campbell-Foster on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

To the Class of 2026:

The big day is only a few months away, so it’s time for us to select the 2026 Student Commencement Speaker! If you are a graduating senior and are interested in sharing a message at graduation that will resonate with your class, I am writing to share important information regarding the application and selection process.

How it works
Each year, a committee comprised of faculty and staff are appointed to review applications and select our top candidates. The finalists are invited to deliver their remarks in person in front of the committee toward the end of March. A final recommendation is then made to the Office of the President. On the lead-up to commencement, the chosen speaker will have time to practice and receive coaching from a few experts.

How to submit a speech for consideration
If you are interested in submitting a speech for consideration, you must do so no later than 5 pm on Monday, March 16, 2026. Your speech can be delivered electronically, in PDF format, to dos@bu.edu. Be certain not to have your name typed anywhere in the document as the committee reviews the speeches anonymously, prior to selecting the finalists.

What should I know before submitting a speech?
The speaker will have five minutes at the podium. Therefore, submissions should be no longer than five minutes and must be read within that timeframe to receive full consideration. The committee is on the lookout for messages that convey a unique message that will resonate with the thousands of people who attend commencement. (Pro tip: take a moment to read it out loud before sharing the final copy with us).

The next few weeks and months are some of the most memorable in your college career. Take time to enjoy the moments and traditions leading up to graduation. I’ll see you along the way.

Sincerely,
Jason Campbell-Foster, EdD
Dean of Students
