Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Initiatives
Here is how we’re approaching each part of our mission statement.
Recruitment and Retention
- We have a DEI statement on all job postings
- We are part of the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences’ Emerging Scholars Series
- Faculty search committee members undergo a mandatory DEI training
- University-wide Initiatives
- Faculty and Staff Community Networks
Curriculum and Academic Programming
- We are working with the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) Associate Dean of Diversity & Inclusion to provide DEI training to teaching fellows
- Department staff attend DEI workshops and some have completed the CAS Staff Institute
- We have taught a class on Fairness in Artificial Intelligence
Professional Development
- We sponsor the Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing annually and we attend the event and send a contingency of students
- We sponsor the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing annually and we attend the event and send a contingency of students
- We are an Academic Partner of AccessComputing. AccessComputing provides mentoring and some limited funding for career development activities for students with disabilities in computing-related fields. Find the student team member application.
Community Engagement and Feedback
- We aided in the collection of a climate survey through the DEI Tech Collective
- We hosted DEI Listening Sessions in Spring 2022
- Support of Student Groups through the Ignite Student Leadership Council and Spark!
Tracking Key Metrics
- We will leverage data collected with the DEI Tech Collective to track key metrics and measure the success of our initiatives
