Jonathan Mettasophia was born and raised in Natick, MA. He graduated with a Ph.D. in Practical Theology from Boston University with a concentration in Spirituality Studies in 2019. His research interests include: Ecclesiology, Asceticism, Systematic Theology, Orthodox Spirituality, phenomenological and empirical studies of religious and spiritual practice and experience, psychotherapy and spirituality, and the spirituality of philanthropic practices.

He is a graduate of Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. There he earned a BA in Religious Studies with a minor in Classical Greek and a Masters of Divinity. He is a Masters of Theology candidate, also at Holy Cross. His thesis, entitled The One and the Many: Maximos the Confessor and the Tension between the Eucharistic and Therapeutic Ecclesiologies, argues for a balanced approach to Orthodox Ecclesiology, which incorporates both the personal and corporate aspects of spiritual life.

He has served in several ministries for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Upon the completion of his ThM, he served as the Pastoral Assistant at the Cathedral of the annunciation in Atlanta, GA. He continues to travel around the US offering retreats and lectures on themes related to the spirituality of daily life. He hopes to serve the Orthodox Church both in ministry and through his scholarly endeavors.
