Program Focus & Experience

The Master of Science in Public Relations (MS in PR) prepares students to become strategic, ethical, and research-driven communication professionals. The program blends public relations theory with hands-on, real-world learning across corporate, nonprofit, agency, and public affairs contexts.Students develop core competencies in media relations, strategic communication management, digital and social media strategy, crisis and reputation management, and stakeholder engagement.

PRLab is BU’s award-winning, student-run public relations agency—one of the first of its kind in the United States. As a PRLab participant, students work with real clients, including nonprofits, startups and established organizations, to:

  • Develop PR strategies and campaign plans
  • Write media materials and pitch stories
  • Manage client relationships
  • Execute digital, social, and media relations campaigns

PRLab provides an authentic agency experience and helps students graduate with a strong, portfolio-ready body of work.

In addition to PRLab, students gain practical experience through:

  • Internships for academic credit

  • Guest speakers from leading agencies, companies, and nonprofits
  • Case-based assignments and pitch simulations

Faculty frequently bring industry professionals into the classroom, offering mentorship, feedback, and exposure to current PR practices.
