About Tina McDuffie

Tina McDuffie is an Edward R. Murrow award-winning & Emmy nominated television-radio reporter and host in Boston. McDuffie is the host of the Local, USA series on WORLD Channel Network, a national half-hour news documentary program. WORLD Channel is seen in roughly 33 million United States Households and is based at WGBH in Boston. McDuffie is also an associate professor of the practice of journalism at Boston University.

McDuffie has reported regularly for the WGBH local television program Greater Boston and has served as a fill-in host for the stations long-standing television program Basic Black. On the radio side, she reported for 89.7 FM during the local broadcasts of National Public Radio’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered. She has contributed to: NPR, PBS Newshour, KPBS and WGBY. McDuffie also contributed to the Huffington Post.

McDuffie has won many awards throughout her career. These include: a National Endowment for financial education RTDNA award, an Edward R. Murrow award, two National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence awards, two Public Radio News Directors Incorporated awards and eight Telly awards as host of the Local USA series on WORLD Channel. McDuffie was nominated for an Emmy Award as host-moderator for an episode of WGBH’s Basic Black that focused on women of color and breast cancer.

McDuffie was inducted into the WERS Hall of Fame by her alma mater Emerson College in 2018.

McDuffie was previously a weekend morning anchor and reporter for a television network affiliate in Connecticut.  During her time in Connecticut, McDuffie created “Tina Around Town” an award-winning weekly news series that was honored by the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists in the 2010 Excellence in Journalism contest.

She was chosen as a fellow by the Radio Television Digital News Foundation in 2009-2010 (Jacque Minnottee National Health Reporting Fellowship).

She was chosen as Best Local TV Reporter by readers of Hartford Magazine in the 2011 Best of Hartford Contest.

McDuffie was also chosen as a National Press Foundation fellow in March 2012, where she traveled to Denver, Colorado to discuss media coverage of health issues.

McDuffie was named one of Connecticut’s “Most Powerful and Influential Women of 2012” by the National Diversity Council.

McDuffie’s radio work for a South Shore Massachusetts station won an Associated Press award in 2005. The coverage of the 2004 Democratic national convention in Massachusetts made McDuffie the first African American in that station’s history to win the award, which made national headlines.

Known for her smile and warm personality, McDuffie is a big proponent of building self-esteem among young people. She is a sought after public and motivational speaker.
