About Lucy Sutherland

As a lecturer at Boston University’s College of Communication, Lucy bases her writing instruction on the belief that effective communication happens only when students learn to trust the wisdom and clarity of their own, individual voices. Finding authenticity as a communicator is a life-long challenge that demands constant cultivation and patience. With generous and persistent feedback, Lucy inspires students to go beyond their habitual ways of seeing themselves, both as thinkers and writers, so that they can continue to find clarity and purpose throughout their professional careers.

In addition to teaching Basic Media Writing, Lucy teaches English at Boston University’s Writing Program at the College of Arts and Sciences. Prior to her teaching role at Boston University, Lucy worked in various writing and editing capacities at Business Wire, Thomson Reuters, The Worcester Telegram and Gazette, The Sentinel and Enterprise, The Patriot Ledger, Entrepreneur Magazine and other business publications.
