About A. Sherrod Blakely

A. Sherrod Blakely is a lecturer at Boston University’s College of Communication with a concentration in sports journalism, multimedia/mobile reporting and podcasting.

Blakely is also an NBA writer for Bleacher Report along with being an NBA columnist for Ebony.com and Bet.com. Blakely is also the creator and co-host of The A-List Podcast with Kwani Lunis and Gary Washburn, nominated for Best Basketball podcast in 2023.

In 2010, Blakely arrived in Boston as the first Boston Celtics Insider for NBC Sports Boston and was awarded Boston.com’s “A-List Celtics Reporter of the Year” in 2011. He was later nominated for a Massachusetts Emmy Award in 2020 on a multimedia story centered on an emerging star in the NBA, Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum. Blakely previously covered the NBA’s Detroit Pistons for the award-winning Mlive.com website, and earlier covered ACC football and men’s basketball for the Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer, with a specific concentration on Duke and N.C. State.

Away from class, Blakely is the chair of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Sports Task Force and chair of the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) Diversity Committee along with being a mentor to some of the biggest names in sports journalism on-air as well as with various global news organizations. In his spare time, Blakely enjoys traveling, a passion he developed when he studied abroad in London while attending Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Communications on a four-year, fully-paid academic scholarship. He would later attain a master’s degree from St. Bonaventure’s Jandoli School of Communication in Digital Journalism.
