The Boston University Department of Film & Television Screenplay Award – Shorts is the University’s only contest recognizing student scripts. Sponsored by the Film & Television Department, the contest will recognize the top three best student short screenplays. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place.
The Boston University Department of Film & Television Screenplay Award – Shorts is open to all currently enrolled Film & Television graduate students, majors, and minors at Boston University, as well as former FTV students who graduated in May 2025.
Please note the following rules:
- Limit one entry per student.
- The script must be original – no adaptations (unless you own the rights to the property or it is in the public domain).
- Shorts must have been written and revised in a shorts writing class at BU.
- Screenplays must be properly formatted.
- Shorts must be 20 pages or fewer in length.
- No paper or emailed submissions will be accepted. Only submit through this form.
- Most importantly: Your name or other contact information may not appear anywhere in or on the script. The cover pages should only include the title of the work.
Submissions are due by 11:59 pm, January 9, 2026.
