About Patrice Oppliger

Dr. Oppliger teaches mass media theory and research methods. Oppliger’s research focuses on the influence of the media and popular culture on adolescents’ development, using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods. She is the author of six books: “Wrestling and Hypermasculinity” (2004), “Girls Gone Skank: The Sexualization of Girls in American Culture” (2008), “Bullies and Mean Girls in Popular Culture” (2013), “Tweencom Girls: Gender and Adolescence in Disney and Nickelodeon Sitcoms” (2019), “The Dark Side of Stand-Up Comedy” (2020), and “Transmasculinity on Television” (2022). She has also published articles and book chapters on humor and is a past president of the International Society for Humor Studies.
