The academic experience for students is COM’s top priority. We believe that our students benefit from a mix of classroom instruction, research opportunities and hands-on, experiential learning.

We are updating our curricula. Our journalism students investigate wrongdoing through the Justice Media Co-Lab. We launched COMLab for students to apply skills across our fields of study for professional projects. We are developing new academic options, including new programs civic science communication, health and science communication, user experience (UX) in design, and branding.

We are upgrading our technology. We overhauled Studio West for television and journalism students as well as two studios dedicated to podcasting.

We are enhancing writing instruction. We hired a new Writing Director and added staff with expertise in ESL instruction to COM’s Writing Center. We launched COM’s first-ever Writer in Residence program.
