A minor in Classical Civilization requires a minimum of six courses.
The requirements are as follows:
- One course in Greek History/Civilization or Roman History/Civilization
- CL101 World of Greece
- CL102 World of Rome
- CL321 Greek History
- CL322 Roman History
- Four classical civilization and/or classical language courses (including CAS CG courses)
- View Civilization and/or Classical Languages Courses courses here.
- One course focusing on classical literature
- View Classical Literature courses here.
* If CL111, CL112, CL161, CL162, CG111, CG112 are used toward the language requirement they cannot be used toward minor requirements
**CL 101 and CL 102 may be counted towards this requirement as well, unless these courses are used to satisfy the first requirement listed above
This minor will be receiving new requirements which are in the final approval stage. We anticipate that final confirmation for these changes will come before the next academic year (2026-2027). The following are the proposed changes:
Minor in Classical Studies: 6 courses
- CAS CL101, CL102, CL321 or CG101
- Five additional CAS CL or CG courses
- One of which must be 300-level or above
With permission of DUS, one related course from other departments may be counted toward this minor.
