PhD Candidate, Economics

Marco Olivari (he/him) is a Ph.D. candidate in economics. His research focuses on macroeconomics, monetary economics, with a particular interest in how firms’ expectations and planning decisions shape the transmission of monetary policy. His current work uses earnings-call transcripts and firm-level data to measure the corporate planning horizons. To learn more about Marco’s resdarch and writing  visit his website.

In Spring 2026, Marco received this summer mini-grant to support travel to present this project at the Second PhD Workshop at the EUI Department of Economics, held on June 1–2, 2026 at Villa La Fonte. The project studies the role of firms’ planning horizons in the transmission of monetary policy to investment. Using U.S. earnings-call transcripts, the project constructs a firm-level measure of planning horizons and shows that longer-horizon firms respond differently to current-rate and forward-guidance monetary policy shocks. A standard neoclassical investment model with finite planning horizons rationalizes this contrast.
