Isabel Beach (she/her) is a Ph.D. candidate in anthropology. She grew up in southcentral Alaska, where her research is now based, and she worked in environmental education before starting graduate school. Isabel’s research interests center on the interactions between northern hunter-gatherer communities and botanical landscapes in the past, which she considers through archaeological methods. In Spring 2026, Isabel was awarded a summer mini-grant which will support a portion of Isabel’s dissertation research, making it possible for Isabel to visit museum collections with previously excavated materials from Southcentral Alaska to reanalyze stone tools for microscopic traces of plant use.
