CISS Co-Hosts Events to Amplify Impacts of Social Science Research and Inform Policy
Are your ready to amplify your research and make a lasting impact on social justice and equity in this world?
Come share why research matters? And, learn to engage new audiences and unlock new opportunities to advance your research ideas and projects?
Joint the CAS Office of Research Administration (Kathleen Shannon, director), for CAS Knowledge NeXus: Social Justice & Ethics, the second of four cross-college events. It is an opportunity to have essential and relevant conversations and create meaningful connections to support and advance your research!
Come participate in a two-part event that starts on April 14th at 1PM in Yawkey Center 613 A. An expert panel will share information on the current city, state and federal landscape, resources and opportunities. Hear from:
- Jessica Wong, Federal Relations
- Bill Ruch, Lewis-Burke Associates
- Susan Sheng & Agnes Burt, Foundation Relations
- Cecelia Nardi & Jim Curley, Community/State Relations
- Sydney Gross, CAS Communications.
In the afternoon at 2:30PM learn to better position your research by testing your 90 second – 2 minute pitch in a supportive environment of peers. It won’t be perfect, but it will be a start. The pitch can be used with policymakers, funders, collaborators, community members and more. It allows you to articulate and amplify the significance of your research, projects and ideas.
On April 24th from 3-5PM, come back to Yawkey Center 613B and exercise what you learned in smaller groups. Practice your pitch again. Share new ideas and collaborations. Learn who might be interested and where you might have impact. We will find you a place at our tables.
We look forward to the exciting discussions and collaborations that this series will spark. Please register today! This event will be in person, and it will not be recorded. It is open to the research community (faculty, clinical/research scientists, lecturers, grad students, staff)
And mark your calendars for three more exciting events to amplify your research impact:

Participants will learn strategies to convey their research impact leveraging tools that BU supports. This virtual event will feature presentations from experts in impact analytical platforms, such as Elsevier/SciVal, Overton, and Dimensions. They will be showcasing how their strategies and tools can assist you in quantifying and improving the visibility of your research for policymakers, funders, media/news outlets, public audiences, peers/collaborators and more. The panel will be facilitated by BU resident bibliometric expert, David Flynn, a Senior Research Librarian at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and explore how these tools can benefit their individual work and communicate societal, academic or economic impact for research. Please register here, and a zoom link will be sent closer to the date.
