CAS Launches Mentoring Initiative
The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is launching a new Mentoring Initiative to improve professional growth and development support for faculty and staff, and they are excited to welcome community members to learn more about the roots, timeline, and goals of this initiative. This initiative grew out of the 2020-30 Strategic Plan, and will be implemented in phases in CAS in the 2024-25 academic year.
Background: CAS created a working group in summer 2023 to review current mentoring offerings for faculty and staff. In fall 2023 the group launched a survey to recently tenured faculty and their mentors and hired the consulting group AugMentors to conduct qualitative assessment with CAS faculty, staff, and administrators and learn more about potential directions for the future.
Spring 2024: CAS is conducting a pilot focused on ways to provide education, support, and resources for current and future mentors. The pilot is comprised of a diverse cohort of lecturers, staff, and tenured faculty who will provide ongoing feedback about the most relevant and impactful content for training mentors.
Info Sessions: On both Tuesday January 30 and Wednesday, January 31 Jimmy Edgerton and Julie Meyer, co-founders of AugMentors, and Vincent Stephens, Associate Dean, Diversity & Inclusion, are hosting an Information Session to discuss the initiative in more detail and share data CAS has collected about the community’s vision for mentoring.
The meeting will provide context in the first part and the second part will focus more on the structure and activities of the cohort. Members of the cohort will be present for both sessions as well.
The organizers welcome CAS faculty and staff interested in mentoring in CAS to attend either of these sessions. The meetings can be accessed through the links below:
