A New Academic Year, New Opportunities
A Welcome Message from Molly-Kate MacLeod
We’re so excited to have you back on Commonwealth Avenue and hope you’re ready to dive into all the fun and opportunities we’ve planned for the year. Over the summer, our advising team has been busy checking records, meeting incoming students, and preparing for another semester of DS 109. Be sure to check in with your advisor as questions come up about course planning and use the new scheduling system on your myBU profile to book an appointment. Walk-in advising hours will be posted soon on the CDS advising webpage—stay tuned!
This year also began with a lively CDS Orientation, where we welcomed our newest students to campus. The day was filled with energy—meet & greets, insights from the advising panel, a warm welcome from CDS Associate Provost Azer Bestavros, and plenty of games to bring our community together. It was an inspiring start to the semester, serving as a reminder of the strength of our growing CDS community.
We’re also welcoming a new—but familiar—face to the academic programs team: Alessandra Augusto. Many of you know Alessandra from her role leading CDS events; she’s now transitioned to oversee CDS Career Development. She’ll be spearheading a data science–focused career workshop series this year, including sessions on résumé writing, interview prep, and networking skills, while continuing the Industry Connection Series to bring you conversations with leaders from across the data science world. This new role is designed to make it even easier to access career guidance and internship opportunities throughout your CDS journey.
Career preparation for our students is a priority, and this new role that Alessandra has taken on will allow us to streamline information about career development and open internship/career opportunities for our students and alumni.
Good luck moving in and settling into your new course routine!
