Events and programs make up a huge part of how we support students and alumni. They include both virtual and in-person sessions, are led by CCD staff and by recruiters, and are a chance to discuss and connect.

Career Fairs and Other CCD-Hosted Events
Career fairs offer you the chance to meet with a variety of employers in one day, either in person or virtually, depending on the event. Some career fairs are industry focused while others include all industries. The CCD also organizes a variety of events where you can connect with employers, such as employer panels, networking events, mock interview events, and employer visits.
Check our calendar and Handshake for upcoming events. Check our blog for tips and advice on interacting with employers at career fairs and other events.
Information Sessions and Other Employer-Hosted Events
In addition to CCD recruiting events, employers also host a wide range of opportunities, both on campus and virtually, to learn about organizations and roles. Some of the most common types of events are:
- Career Panels. Designed for a specific major or industry, these panels are generally requested by a faculty member or a department/program administrator. They may be offered in conjunction with an affiliated student organization. Panelists are generally employers, recent graduates, or BU alumni working in the field of interest. The format consists of a brief presentation followed by Q&A.
- Information Sessions. Held by most employers and typically will include information about the organization overall as well as specific positions, requirements, and career paths.
- Mock Interviews. Connect with employers individually while helping to sharpen your interview skills.
- Meet and Greets. A more informal event and a good opportunity to ask questions and have a conversation with the recruiter about the organization and roles
- Treks. Experience a day with your dream company by visiting their office or campus, learning about career paths with the company, and networking with current employees.
- Topical Knowledge Sessions. Less common and can vary depending on the employer, but generally is an opportunity to connect with an employer around a discussion topic rather than specific positions.
In addition, some employers conduct interviews on campus. These positions are posted in Handshake and designated as having an on-campus interview. The employer will review applicants, set up an interview schedule for a specific day, and then invite selected candidates to choose an interview slot.

Graduate School Information Sessions
A number of graduate degree programs from institutions around the country recruit at BU, hosting both in-person and virtual events. Check our calendar and Handshake for upcoming events.
No-Show Policy for Recruiting Events
If you are unable to attend an employer one-on-one (interview, mock interview, resume review, or individual session at a virtual career fair) or a Trek event that you have RSVP’d for, please cancel your RSVP in Handshake at least 24 hours in advance so that our office may be notified and your spot may be given to another student. If you cannot provide 24 hours notice, please email our Employer Engagement team directly.
Students who do not cancel their appointment by the 24-hour time frame will be subject to the Center for Career Development (CCD)’s no-show policy.
Presentations and Workshops
Every semester, we host presentations and workshops on a wide range of topics for students and alumni at any stage of their career development. These sessions are offered both in-person and virtually.
Check our calendar for upcoming sessions. You can also access recordings of some of our most popular workshops on our YouTube playlist.
Request a Presentation
Faculty, staff, and student organizations are welcome to request an in-person or virtual presentation for their group meeting or class session. The session can cover standard topics (listed on the request form) or something customized for the group (such as career exploration for a specific major), and more.
- Submit requests for standard workshops (topics listed on the request form) at least two to three weeks before your first date preference.
- Submit requests for tailored workshop topics at least four weeks before your first date preference.
- If an outside speaker or alumni guest speaker is requested, additional time may be required.
- Typically, our workshops are 30-60 minutes. Shorter presentations, such as an overview of the CCD services and resources for orientations, are also available.
- Workshop requests are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
- While not all requests can be accommodated and may be dependent upon staff availability, resources, and other engagements, we will work with you to support you and your students and recommend alternative resources or opportunities to support your group.
