Frequently Asked Questions
How can I access the Professional Clothing Closet?
Appointments (30-min each) are available in
Handshake. Log in using your BU credentials. From the Career Center drop-down menu, select Appointments. Select Schedule New Appointment, then choose the Professional Clothing Closet category and select a time that works for your schedule. You’ll be asked to answer a few questions about what you’re looking for, which will help us make sure we have the range of items and sizes available.
I can’t sign up for an appointment on Handshake. Is there another way to access the closet?
We have been overwhelmed with the positive response to the Professional Clothing Closet, which has made appointments scarce. If you aren’t able to sign up for an appointment at present, it means no appointments are available at this time. We release new appointment availability each week, and we do get cancellations from time to time, so please continue to check back on Handshake for new openings.
If you are in urgent need of professional clothing items, check out this helpful list of local thrift stores from BU Today.
How many items can I take?
You’ll be able to take (and keep) any four items per school year, but only one suit.
Do I have to return the items I take?
No, you can keep the items you select. No returns necessary, although you are welcome to donate items you no longer need that are in good condition back to the closet.
Are there any costs or fees?
No, the Professional Clothing Closet is absolutely free to students.
Can I volunteer with the Professional Clothing Closet?
The Professional Clothing Closet welcomes students, faculty, staff, and community members to volunteer with us on a weekly or monthly basis. Volunteers help us curate and organize the donations that we receive. If you would like to sign up or learn more about our volunteering opportunities, please email us at
