BU Pub

Beloved campus watering hole

A homey and unpretentious pub Located at the rear of the Castle, and featuring bar food and an extensive selection of beers on tap, the Pub has been a favorite destination for BU faculty, staff, and students (over age 21!) for decades. The interior décor emphasizes wood paneling, darts, and low lighting. A small outdoor patio welcomes visitors during good-weather months.

One longstanding Pub tradition—dating back to 1988—is the “Knight’s Quest,” in which Pub patrons sample 50 beers on the menu. A number of rules intended to discourage over-consumption complicate the Quest: would-be knights can consume no more than 2 beers in a given hour or day, and the Quest must take at least 12 weeks. Knighting ceremonies are held on Thursday and Friday nights.

Another tradition is BU-themed sandwiches, such as the Politician (turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, cranberry sauce, pub spread, and onions). The Pub also offers beer tastings, food specials, trivia contests, and karaoke nights.

Toward the end of 2015, BU announced plans to convert the Castle to an alumni center—and made it clear that the Pub would not only stay in the upgraded facility, but also get an expanded kitchen and a four-season patio.
