‘Frozen’ Offers Glimpse of Autism in Girls
Our Director's, Dr. Helen Tager Flusberg , newest column for The Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) discusses how the popular film 'Frozen' offers a glimpse of autism in girls:
“Pinning an autism diagnosis on a Disney heroine may seem audacious, but Elsa displays a lot of traits reminiscent of those that clinicians and researchers have highlighted among girls with autism. Time for some soul-searching in science

Whether it’s the high-profile retraction of a Science paper that supported equality for gays or the jailing of a former Iowa State University researcher who faked data on an HIV vaccine, discredited studies affect the public’s faith in research.

Aaron Shield at Miami University
CARE's very own Aaron Shield will be moving to Cincinnati Ohio this summer to start his new position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders at Miami University . We're incredibly proud of Arron and excited for him. Congratulations!

Last week SFARI News highlighted lab alumnus Aaron Shield’s study on pronoun use in deaf children with ASD acquiring sign language. We're very excited about the well deserved attention that Aaron's work is getting!
Emily Browne in the News!
Emily Browne, one of our participants in the ACE Brain Systems for Language study, is in the news! The BSL study aims to understand the range of language abilities and the brain systems that may contribute why people with Autism Spectrum Disorders have difficulties communicating with spoken language. Emily is one of our minimally verbal participants who, in addition to participating in the BSL study, was shadowed by reporter Chris Berdik, photographer Jackie Riccardi, and videographer Davin Hahn . Karen Chenausky research grant
Congratulations to our very own Karen Chenausky on receiving a grant from the Autsim Science Foundation! The Autism Science Foundation is a not-for-profit organization the provides funding for autism research. Karen received a research enhancement grant for her work investigating markers of early speech development in children at-risk for autism.
