My primary interests are in neuropsychological methods applied to the field of developmental disorders, specifically autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Over the last seven years I have specialized in ASD and have investigated ASD in the context of action perception and implicit social learning. My PhD project at the University of Hull focused on using electroencephalography (EEG) to investigate the functioning of the brain mechanism that is involved in the observation and execution of actions, the mirror neuron system (MNS), in individuals with ASD and in typically-developed individuals. At CARE, I am currently working on the Training Early Social Language in Autism (TESLA) project. The aims of this project are to investigate whether the onset of ASD is associated with an underlying systems-level impairment in the MNS and whether targeted intervention leads to changes in MNS activity at the neural and behavioral levels.
