Sophia Filosa
Sophia Filosa, originally from Toronto, Ontario, has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Global Development Studies & History with a Certificate in Business from Queen’s University. While her artistic background primarily lies in dance performance, she is incredibly motivated and inspired by creative arts spaces throughout the arts sector. Throughout her undergraduate experience, she was heavily involved in student groups that allowed her passion for the arts to thrive, taking her interests from hobbies to career-driving aspirations.
Additionally, she has worked with community groups and non-profits outside of the arts, most notably as the Managing Director of the Student Life Center at Queen’s University and as the Community Engagement Coordinator at Sustainability Kingston. These roles gave her insight into the remarkable world of non-profit, community spaces, pushing her professional experiences further. Now, as she completes her Masters of Science in Arts Administration at Boston University’s Metropolitan College, she can put passion into practice, hoping to take on greater managerial and team-oriented roles within the arts in the future.
On the side, Sophia is involved with DanceWorks Boston and Boston Dance Studios, and exploring other dance-based events/activities around the city. She hopes to expand her connections within the Boston community and create a good foundation for future work in the city!
Having only just started the Arts Administration program, I have already become so immersed in the program! All my classes are incredibly hands-on and focused towards achieving a successful career in the arts sector, no matter the students background. I have found program staff and faculty to be very supportive in planning my academic route, and all have been willing and eager to challenge and encourage me to go forward. I have no doubt that after the program, I will have the necessary skills and professional development to allow me to succeed!
