Jeff Steward

Students in AR 749, Research and Program Evaluation in the Arts made a site visit to the Harvard Art Museums to meet with Jeff Steward, the Director of Digital Infrastructure and Emerging Technology, where oversees the collections database, API, and photography studio. For the opening of the new Harvard Art Museums in November 2014, he helped launch the Lightbox Gallery, a public research and development space. Since 1999, Steward has directed the use of a wide range of digital technology employed for infrastructure, public communications, and data mining.  His areas of research include visualization of cultural datasets; open access to metadata and multimedia material; and data interoperability and sustainability.

Mr. Steward introduced a range of data visualization tools that he has developed to analyze collections use and visitor behavior.
