Ilana Barker
Lecturer
Ilana Barker (AR 721 – Advanced Arts Marketing Analytics) has over 15 years of experience working in marketing and data analytics management across multiple industries, but her passion has always been for the arts. She currently works full-time for the Flint Institute of Music (FIM) in Flint, Michigan, as Director of CRM and Analytics, and is able to excel at the role from her remote home office in Boston. As a senior leader within FIM’s external relations division, Ilana supports the FIM’s symphony orchestra, repertory theatre, school of performing arts, and other produced and presented programs by centralizing analytics for business decisions and encouraging her colleagues to be data-driven. Ilana also manages the implementations and integrations of various systems, including training of colleagues, for streamlined processes.
Ilana graduated from Boston University’s School of Management (B.S.A. with concentrations in Marketing and Operations and Technology Management) while also working as an Usher for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Upon graduating, Ilana spent over five years working in Marketing Operations and Business Intelligence at TechTarget, an enterprise level content marketing firm focused on the tech sector. At the opportunity to transfer her skills into an industry of passion, Ilana was hired by Boston Ballet as their first Data Analytics Manager and was later promoted to Senior Manager of Data Analytics. During her time at Boston Ballet, Ilana also served on the Executive Committee of the Boston Arts Marketing Alliance, a decades old consortium of senior leaders in marketing at Greater Boston’s arts organizations.
Ilana has consulted with various performing arts and higher-ed institutions, such as the American Repertory Theater, North Bennet Street School, Gloucester Stage Company, and Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public health on projects and topics such as new patron retention, development e-communications, admission trends, and moves management. In her spare time, Ilana can be found patronizing music, theater or dance performances.
