Born in Northern China, Xinran Tan generated a passion for the arts at a young age. Xinran’s love for art and culture inspired her to pursue an undergraduate study in Cultural Industry Management at Ocean University of China. To step into the art world, she interned at EGG Gallery in Beijing for six months where she dealt with administration, marketing, and tour guiding. This experience offered Xinran a hands-on understanding of the relationships between artists, galleries, and audiences. Xinran also worked as an editorial intern at The Art Newspaper China (TANC). During this internship, she was responsible for news digest everyday and worked on the content of a new exhibition guidance mobile application. Her experience as an editor provided Xinran with a better understanding of the art world ecosystem.

Enrolled in BU’s Arts Administration program starting in Fall 2017, Xinran is now on a new page of her life. She hopes to further discover what the art world has to offer and pursue a career in this sphere.

The Arts Administration program at Boston University is a pragmatic program. It teaches us about not only every element that relates to arts administration in the American context, but also transferable skills that are useful on the international level as well. This program is also a great place to get to know your future coworkers and make connections to people in the field. I am confident this program will help prepare me for a future in the art industry.
