Alumni Spotlight Interview

Somers graduated from the Arts Administration program in 2016, having previously earned a BA in Art from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Prior to her graduate studies, Somers worked in the design industry for several years and concurrently served as a research assistant for a prominent architectural historian. While a student at BU, Somers held internships at the Boston Architectural College and the Society of Arts of Crafts. Inspired by the skills gained through her studies, following graduation Somers transitioned to the nonprofit sector. She currently works as the Development Coordinator at North Bennet Street School. Somers has been a board member of the Brookline Arts Center since 2014 and is the Ambassador Chair of the Arts Administration Alumni Association.

The Arts Administration program opened my eyes to a world of opportunity. My coursework at many times forced me outside of my comfort zone, but ultimately it led me to a rewarding career path. I would not be where I am today were it not for my experiences at BU. I’m grateful to have grown so much and to have met so many interesting and inspiring classmates and professors.
