Mengdi Zhao graduated from the Boston University Arts Administration program in 2018. She also graduated from the School of Journalism and Communication at China Youth University of Political Studies with a B.A. in Radio and Television Journalism in 2016.

During her time at CYU, Mengdi interned at Beijing Television, Youth.cn, and Haidian District Government Information Center. Her positions include Television Director, Producer Director, journalist, and editor. Through the process, her understanding of film and television arts management in particular deepened and gave her the inspiration to pursue arts administration.

She also co-directed the documentary The Life of the Black Swan from May through June 2014. From shooting and planning to post-production, she had a glimpse of the overall process of making a documentary, which would be beneficial to her career as an arts administrator.

After starting the program in spring 2017, Mengdi was inspired by the different environments, lifestyles, and opportunities in the U.S. At postgraduate level, it is her academic goal to become familiar with how art works are launched in the market, and how a film, a drama, and a stage play is created and funded.

In different culture and language environments, and in diverse ways, art works tried to resonate with people. I took it as the most meaningful thing throughout my life to do something with art that spread beauty. With extensive experience in art especially film and television arts, I wanted to start conversations at the spiritual level. Though studying and working as an art administrator, I hope I can spend my effort on producing numerous touching stories which guide people’s values and trigger their thinking of social phenomena.
