Students are expected to have demonstrable, discipline-based expertise in one art area (such as visual arts, dance, theatre, or music). Although this requirement may be satisfied in a variety of ways, most applicants have undergraduate degrees in the arts.

English proficiency waiver: The English requirement may be waived for applicants whose native language is English, or for applicants who have received or expect to receive, an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college or university where the primary language of instruction is English for the entirety of the program, and for those who have, or will have, worked for at least two years in a full time, post-bachelor’s degree position in the United States. The admissions committee reserves the right to request an English proficiency exam score upon review of all submitted application documents.
