Internship: Temporary Publicity Associate
First Chair Promotion is seeking a Temporary Publicity Associate to cover a paternity leave from late June through August, beginning with a paid shadowing/onboarding period.
Founded in 2007, First Chair Promotion is a boutique public relations firm specializing in classical music. Working closely with clients and their teams, First Chair identifies newsworthy performances, projects, recordings, and events and seeks targeted coverage — cultivating a public profile for each artist in line with tailored strategy.
Clients include the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, David Lang, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Hilary Hahn, James Taylor, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon, Yo-Yo Ma, and Yuval Sharon.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drafting press releases and media pitches
- Brainstorming pitch angles
- Arranging and coordinating press interviews
- Pitching non-classical media outlets
- Monitoring media coverage and compiling clips
- Coordinating with journalists and client contacts
- Updating artist websites and social media on Facebook and Instagram
- Monitoring and updating artist profiles on Spotify, Apple Music, and Songkick.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate is a strong writer with keen attention to detail, someone who can work independently across multiple priorities, and is east coast-based.
