Job: Travel Stipend

This opportunity is for artists of all disciplines from New England who are planning a residency or cooperation in Germany in 2024. Goethe Institut is open to residencies/cooperation that occurred before April 30th and are happy to reimburse travel costs.

Studio 170 is once again offering artists of all disciplines, living and/or working in New England, the opportunity to apply for travel funding to Germany in 2024. Whether you are planning an artist residency or a collaborative project in Germany, we invite you to apply for a travel stipend to help cover the costs.

Studio 170 will reimburse up to $1500 in travel costs including flights, room & board, visa, and necessary shipping costs. Artists must be based in New England and have a confirmed invitation to Germany for a residency or for a collaborative project with an artist and/or an organisation. Although there is no required length of stay, the expectation is at least 10 days.  Artists of all disciplines, including visual and multi-media art, film, theater, music, writing and dance, are invited to apply.

Artists are asked to (1) share material for the Goethe-Institut Boston social media channels during their time in Germany and upon returning (2) commit to participating in a public event at the Goethe-Institut boston at which they share their work or alternatively submit a final report.

Please note, Studio 170 cannot reimburse travel costs that are already covered by a host in Germany. Successful applicants will be required to submit original receipts prior to receiving reimbursement.

To apply, please submit the following through the form below:

  • letter of motivation including project description
  • Invitation from artist residency, collaborating artist or festival/exhibition
  • CV
  • Budget reflecting projected costs as well as personal and third-party contributions.

Application deadline is April 30, 2024. Decisions will be communicated by May 15. We expect to fund at least two stipends in 2024.
