Job: Steering Committee Member

Music on the Hill is seeking members for its Steering Committee!
Founded in 2022, Music on the Hill provides children’s music programming to families in Fort Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods of Roxbury. Providing an inclusive musical experience that is free to all, including sing-a-long and use of age-appropriate instruments, Music on the Hill works to build elements of rhythm, enhance freedom of movement, and strengthen personal identity, expression, and well-being for every child.
Music on the Hill currently operates as a fiscally-sponsored organization, and aims to become an incorporated 501(c)(3) by the end of the calendar year.
We are looking for individuals who can bring their experience in finance, fundraising, non-profit management, music/arts education, early childhood education, law and policy, human resources, marketing, technology, community outreach, and diversity and inclusion. Volunteers from within or outside Roxbury are encouraged to apply. In return, we offer a unique opportunity for meaningful engagement with people in the community and the chance to make a difference in the lives of children and families in the Roxbury community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Steering Committee will support the work of Music on the Hill and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Music on the Hill’s Founder, the Committee-Founder relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Committee is critical to the success of Music on the Hill’s mission and values. Specific Committee Member responsibilities include:
- Attendance at Board meetings (four/year)
- Leadership, governance and oversight
- Serving as a trusted advisor to the Founder as she develops and implements Music on the Hill’s strategic plan
- Assisting the Founder in identifying and recruiting other Committee Members
- Representing Music on the Hill to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization by championing and advocating its mission and values
- Fundraising
- Music on the Hill’s Committee Members will consider Music on the Hill a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts of personal significance that reflect that priority. So that Music on the Hill can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, Music on the Hill expects to have 100 percent of Committee Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.
