Job: Administrative Assistant

Black History in Action for Cambridgeport is an emerging nonprofit led by an academic historian and veteran professionals in various fields. Our team brings together decades of experience in community organizing for social uplift and social justice.

BHAC is dedicated to renovating a historically landmarked African American meeting house in Cambridgeport and its reactivation as a center for culture, arts, and justice serving the community. The Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Cambridge Arts Council, the Cambridge Community Foundation, and neighborhood donors support this work.

 

THE POSITION:

Title: Administrative Assistant
Location: Greater Cambridge; work is primarily remote, but some events require an in-person presence
Compensation: $22/hour set consulting fee
Time Commitment: Average ten hours a week, with a flexible distribution of those ten hours
Application Deadline: April 1, 2023
Start Date: Ideal start date is April 15, 2023

The successful candidate will desire to work at the grassroots level to contribute to social change and will find this an opportunity to learn through hands-on work with a small and dedicated group of experienced professionals. The work is primarily remote, with occasional in-person activities.
The general tasks under this position are database management, web and social media presence, publicity, planning, and other administrative functions as needed. The role will report directly to and work closely with the BHAC director and principal volunteers.

The position supports:
• Excel spreadsheet upkeep and research and transition into a new donor database system
• Social media
• Poster and banner design, production, and distribution
• Program event planning
• Fundraising event planning
• Community outreach communications, including information sharing and fundraising

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Clerical experience, including organizing databases
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while meeting deadlines
• Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
• Rigorous attention to detail
• High level of discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

Years of experience: 2-3 years, including through paid employment, or volunteering and life experience.
