Performance: Incorruptible

Priseaux, France, 1250 AD. A motley order of impoverished monks. The river flooded again last week. The chandler’s shop just burned to the ground. The chapel roof caved in.

Priseaux’s patron relic saint ceased producing miracles years ago, driving away pilgriming peasants and their pennies to a rival monastery claiming miracles from the same saint. Hope rose with a promised tide-turning visit from the Pope, but he’s a no-show. It’s a Dark Ages disaster! With starvation looming, a larcenous, one-eyed minstrel with his wife (of sorts) shows the desperate monks a way out of bankruptcy, one that strains the very essence of church teachings. Incorruptible is a bone-tickling dark comedy that explores the fragility of faith in the face of survival, the slippery slope of temptation, spiritual vs. material ideals and this age-old ethical dilemma played out in today’s news: do the ends justify the means?
