Event: Wrestling with Freedom
Three powerful one-act plays written and directed by Jacqui Parker, Wrestling with Freedom connects African-American history to the country’s present predicament. In play one, the audience is transported to the 18th century and meets Phillis Wheatley. Play two is set in the 19th century with Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, and John Brown. In play three, set three years in the future, a modern-day civil war is looming.
