Move-In 2025: Everything You Need to Know
New undergrads get a head start, followed by returning students
This year’s new Boston University undergraduates are getting a jump on moving in for the fall semester. Those attending undergraduate Orientation can set up their rooms on Saturday, August 23, or Sunday, August 24.
If you can’t make it those days, don’t worry. You can move in with continuing students, from Friday, August 29, until Monday, September 1. As in recent years, students—whichever arrival day they select—chose one of two shifts, with Group A moving in between 8 am and noon and Group B between 1 and 5 pm. Students have that four-hour window to check in at their designated Check-In Location, pick up Terrier Cards if they didn’t collect them at Orientation, and move into their rooms.
Before going to their check-in location, students must sign up on the My Housing Portal on their mobile device and go to the Assignment History section. A QR code will be added there ahead of their appointment time to show to a Residence Life staffer at check-in.
University leaders anticipate the busiest move-in days to be August 23 and 29, with 3,000 incoming students expected to arrive both days. Red Sox home games at nearby Fenway Park between August 29 and 31 and on September 1 “will bring additional traffic to the area,” Boston University Police Department (BUPD) Captain Lawrence Cuzzi says. “We will have additional officers along all of the move-in routes to assist with traffic flow and parking.”
Matriculation, which has traditionally been held on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, will be on Friday, August 29, at 3 pm at Agganis Arena this year, closing out the new one-week Orientation. As a result, the University will forgo the traditional new student Matriculation march along Commonwealth Avenue and the requisite closing of the BU Bridge, although BUPD officers will help pedestrians cross at Comm Ave’s major intersections, Cuzzi says.
