Snow Closes Charles River and Medical Campuses

Updated Monday at 5:43 p.m. The MBTA will stop service at 7 p.m. Monday and it will continue to be suspended through Tuesday.

Updated Monday at 3:55 p.m. The MBTA has announced that there will be NO rail service on any subways, trolleys, or commuter rail after 7 p.m. Monday night. Limited bus service will be available.
Updated Monday at 3:30 p.m. The MBTA has canceled all inbound commuter rail service to Boston. Only outbound trains running. This is for commuter rail service, not the T. The T continues to operate, but with significant delays.
As the third big snow in two weeks threatens to drop another 20 inches of white stuff on Boston, University leaders have decided to close both the Charles River Campus and the Medical Campus on Monday.
The championship round of the 63rd men’s Beanpot Tournament, which was scheduled for Monday at the TD Garden, has been postponed. The tournament will be held at TD Garden on Monday, February 23. The final game, pitting BU against Northeastern, begins at 7:30 p.m.; the consolation game, between Boston College and Harvard, is at 4:30 p.m.
A citywide parking ban went into effect in Boston at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Charles River Campus: Closed. Classes are canceled. When classes resume, it will be on the regular class schedule. Whether or how canceled classes are to be made up is at the discretion of individual faculty members.
Medical Campus: The Medical Campus will be closed. Karen Antman, Medical Campus provost and dean of the School of Medicine, says that the MED faculty and medical students who are scheduled for the day will be at Boston Medical Center for inpatients. The closure includes the BU School of Medicine, the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and its Patient Treatment Centers, and the BU School of Public Health. All normal academic and administrative activities have been canceled. Medical, Physician Assistant, and Graduate Medical Sciences students who are assigned to inpatient services or clinics are expected to be present, if possible. Students who are assigned to outpatient services, including GSDM students on externship, should check with their course directors or the policy at the clinical site. Dining Services: All residence dining facilities will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The City Convenience stores will operate on a normal schedule. The George Sherman Union Food Court’s Starbucks, City Convenience, and Rhett’s will be open. The School of Management’s Breadwinners and Starbucks will be closed, as will Rize Café at 100 Bay State Road, Einstein’s Bagels, the Law Café, the BU Pub, and Health Blends at FitRec.
George Sherman Union: Open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Libraries: Mugar Memorial Library, the Astronomy Library, the Pardee Management Library, the Pickering Educational Resources Library, the Science & Engineering Library, and the Stone Science Library will be closed.
Fitness & Recreation Center: Open from 1 to 6 p.m. for informal recreation and exercise. All PERD classes, practices, and events are canceled.
Student Health Services: Student Health Services will be open on an abbreviated schedule from from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday for students with urgent or emergent issues only. After hours, emergency assistance will be available by calling the main office line at 617-353-3575.
Bookstore: Barnes & Noble at Boston University will open at 9 a.m. and close at 3 p.m. Call 617-267-8484 for additional information.
BU Shuttle (the BUS): Will be operating three buses on a limited schedule of 20-minute intervals, with late night service canceled. As a result of poor road conditions, there will be no large, articulate buses running the shuttle route. They may be replaced with nonwrapped coach-style buses. When this occurs, the GPS tracking is not available to be used by BUS patrons. There will likely be delays in service, which will be posted on the BUS website and tweeted from @BUshuttle. Dress appropriately.
Parking: Students, faculty, and staff on the Charles River Campus are urged to refrain from parking in any of the University’s outside lots so that these locations can be properly cleared and maintained. All University parking permit holders who are not parked within a covered/garaged facility should park in one of the following facilities (this includes departmental vehicles): Babcock Street garage; 808 Commonwealth Avenue garage; 575 Commonwealth Avenue garage; and 730 Commonwealth Avenue garage. These covered parking facilities will remain open throughout the storm. Once the campus has reopened, all vehicles should be returned to normal parking areas as soon as possible.

Tuition Refund Deadline Extended: Students who withdraw or take a leave of absence for the spring 2015 semester by Tuesday, February 10, will be eligible for 60 percent cancellation of semester tuition charges. The original deadline was Monday, February 9. This extension applies only to the standard tuition refund schedule.
Club sports, intramural sports, and intramural travel are canceled for Monday. All other BU clubs and organizations scheduled to meet on campus will meet as usual.
Programs requiring Facilities support will operate on a case by case basis. Students should contact the Student Activities Office for more information.
University employees in essential services must report as scheduled. Essential services include, but are not limited to, Boston University Police, Facilities Management & Planning, Dining Services, Mail Services, Student Health Services, Environmental Health & Safety, and Network Services.
