Archaeology Program Funding Opportunities
Archaeology Grants
Hands-on experience with lab work and fieldwork is a critical aspect of the archaeology program for undergraduates and graduate students. Each year the Archaeology Program provides financial support to archaeology students on a competitive basis to assist students so that they can take advantage of these important opportunities. These funds are intended to enhance undergraduate and graduate training in archaeology, and may be used for a variety of research- and travel-related expenses, including conference travel, research activities, and field schools.
Eligibility: Archaeology majors, minors, and graduate students in good academic standing in the BA, BA/MA, or MA program in Archaeology may apply for an Archaeology Student Research Grant.
Application: There are two annual deadlines for applying for these Student Research Grants: November 15 or March 15.. Applications should take the form of a letter to the Archaeology Program’s Director of Undergraduate Studies or the Director of Graduate Studies by midnight on either November 15 or March 15.

Broadening Archaeological Participation Fund
The Archaeology Program recognizes the importance of diversity in all aspects of our discipline. In our effort to continue to make progress toward that goal, we have established the Broadening Archaeological Participation Fund to encourage and support opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students from traditionally underrepresented communities to gain first-hand experience in archaeological fieldwork and lab work, and to consider a possible career in archaeology or some other aspect of cultural heritage work.
Each year the Archaeology Program provides travel support on a competitive basis to Boston University undergraduate and graduate students of color or from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain first-hand experience in the field of archaeology. These funds are normally used to help lessen the financial burden of travel expenses for participation in an approved archaeological summer field school, but may be used for a variety of other research- and travel-related expenses, including conference travel and research activities. The Archaeology Program will be happy to discuss with you current field school and other types of archaeological opportunities around the globe.
