Bill James is an acclaimed American baseball writer, historian, and statistician who pioneered Sabermetrics, the empirical analysis of baseball using statistics. He is the author of more than two dozen books, including The Bill James Handbook, published annually. He is also Senior Advisor on Baseball Operations for the Boston Red Sox. He presented “The Arts & Sciences of Baseball” to the BU Community to share his life as a non-academic who became a baseball scholar.
