Support LAW

September 2021

Last year at this time, I thanked you for your generous past support, which helped this school weather the unprecedented storm of COVID-19. Because of that support, we were able to help our students when swift action was needed. Whether it was helping students with emergency travel or other critical one-time disbursements, the school was there for our students because you were there for us.

Over the past year, you also helped sustain and expand the Public Interest Program (PIP) and our faculty research-assistant program, both of which are once again providing paid working-and-learning opportunities for many students this summer. Only a strong law school could have done so—and your support is a foundation of that strength. Thank you.

And the world took notice. We were ranked a Top 20 law school two years in a row. This in part reflects critical investments, which were made possible by your support of student-supporting activities like our Career Development Office. Does this matter? Absolutely. The class of 2019 had the highest employment rate ever: nearly 95 percent. This past year, even in a difficult hiring season, 92.5 percent of our graduates secured jobs, and the class of 2021 is on track to do so as well, despite its much larger size. Again, thank you!

We’re now approaching our 150th anniversary: a true milestone in our history. We will certainly use this occasion to reflect on and celebrate our proud traditions. But we also will redouble our efforts to build and maintain a vibrant and inclusive community, both on and off campus. What are the ties that bind us? How can they be promoted and reinforced? One initiative that I have been proud to see take shape is our new class agent program, through which alumni assist us in building and sustaining our community. Five alumni have stepped up already, and we look forward to recruiting more dedicated volunteers to help us engage and re-engage community members, raise resources that can be invested into the BU Law community, and put a spotlight on our wonderful institution and its amazing people—alumni, students, faculty, and staff alike.

Thank you for your generous past support of BU School of Law. I hope you’ll consider renewing that support this year with a gift today.

Sincerely,

Angela Onwuachi-Willig
