Lorraine Cocolis: Sargent was my second home

Lorraine Cocolis (Sargent’63)—former president of the Sargent College Alumni Association Board and recipient of the 2014 Dudley Allen Sargent Service Award—on why she gives to the Sargent College Fund:

“Sargent was like my second home—warm, supportive, full of spirit. The academic challenges were great, and the experiential opportunities diverse: as an undergraduate studying health and physical education, I worked as a student teacher in elementary, intermediate, and high schools, as well as at the Perkins School for the Blind. This background prepared me for my varied career. My husband, Peter (ENG’64), was in the military so we moved a lot, and I was always able to get a job, whether teaching physical education, restructuring a junior high science curriculum, or serving as a school principal or dean of students. I give to Sargent so that others can have the excellent training and far-reaching opportunities that I had—that they, too, will be able to pursue their passions and reach their goals. My focus is on supporting the college’s areas of greatest need, including scholarships and program development. I love contributing to Sargent’s commitment to progressive education and improving the health of individuals and society.”
