Welcome to our laboratory.

It isn’t lined with beakers. There are no white coats or microscopes. But, this is where we experiment, test, and discover. Research is at the core of Boston University, and the College of Fine Arts practices it every day.

Artistic and academic scholarship and exploration is central to the mission of the College of Fine Arts in leading the professions related to music, theatre, and visual arts. Through research we advance the study of these arts, challenge the conventions of practice, and test pathways for different approaches.

Research at the College of Fine Arts takes many shapes and forms. From traditional centers of research to progressive programs and interdisciplinary collaborations, scholarship is designed to broaden, pronounce, and underscore the education at work in BU College of Fine Arts.

This is where we dissect and synthesize. Where we examine process and push for answers. Where our art is informed by the world we live in. This research doesn’t happen in isolation. It welcomes outside factors and encourages new perspective.

This is how the arts influence, impact, and thrive in an elite research university. This is how BU College of Fine Arts contributes to the academic discourse at Boston University.
