Undergraduate Minors
We’ve got more art to make and more areas to explore!
The College of Fine Arts offers seven minors that are available to all Boston University students. Read more below, and find information about applying to the minors in the School of Music, School of Theatre, and School of Visual Arts.
Dance
The Dance minor is offered through the partnership of the School of Theatre and the Department of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (PERD). The minor consists of 20 total credits, 10 in required courses, 4 in required dance technique, and 6 in elective courses.
Music
The minor in Music (non-performance) explores a variety of courses in music theory and aural skills. Additional credits in music come from courses chosen with the approval of the advisor for Music minors. Applied music and composition courses require an audition or departmental approval.
Music Performance
The minor in Music (performance) provides Boston University undergraduates with high-level training in instrumental or vocal performance. Concentrated individual study is required, in addition to multiple semesters of ensemble participation and required coursework in music theory and music history. This minor is intended for student musicians with previously substantive music experiences—those who wish to expand upon established musical skills.
Theatre
The Theatre minor program consists of a 28-credit sequence of theatre courses designed to provide students with a balanced and diverse theatre experience. The minor concentration follows a sequence of an 11-credit theatre core, a 7-credit dramatic literature core, and 10 credits of theatre electives. Students will choose a path of study depending on their own desires to explore the disciplines of performance, dramatic literature, or design & production.
Visual Arts
The minor in Visual Arts is designed for students who want an introduction to the concepts and functions of the visual arts offered in a professional training program.
Printmaking
The minor in Printmaking is designed for School of Visual Arts undergraduate students majoring in other areas who desire a strong grounding in the print and book arts. Students will gain experience and exposure to a variety of printmaking art forms and techniques.

Dual Degrees
Love painting AND math? Do you have a passion for music and a penchant for business? Are you interested in a Dual Degree and want to learn more?
Students who are interested in pursuing a dual degree may apply to do so after completing the freshman core foundation. As part of your application, you’ll meet with advisors from both programs, to help you intentionally map out your path. You can combine any areas at Boston University that are of interest to you. Note that some programs will extend the duration of your undergraduate program.
