Master of Arts
M.A. in Asian Art History
Those who wish to specialize in the study of Asian Art are normally required to take five courses focusing solely in Asian Art History. They must include the basic colloquia courses: AH 726 – Arts of Japan, and AH 727 – Arts of China. Students who have already taken courses comparable to the Arts of China and the Arts of Japan may substitute other courses with the consent of the Director of Graduate Studies. Students take three other courses in Asian art history and culture. The final three of the eight courses are electives. Many students often complete the Museum Studies Certificate Program in addition, which includes nine total courses, instead of eight.
Students may, with the approval of the Director of Graduate Studies, take courses in Western Art History or in related fields such as Asian history, literature, and religion. Foreign language proficiency and comprehensive examinations are specific to the Asian Art History degree.
