Fatema Tasmia: Doctoral Research Residency Program at the CCA

Congratulations to Fatema Tasmia, who has been selected for the prestitious Doctoral Research Residency Program (2026) at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), Montreal, for her project, “Tropical Modernism in South Asia: Imported Modernity, Constructional Realities, and Regional Praxis in Chandigarh and Beyond, 1950s–1980s.” The research critically examines how postcolonial nations in South Asia redefined modern architecture in the context of decolonization through climate, materiality, labor, and construction practices, foregrounding non-Western and non-canonical perspectives and highlighting the interplay between transnational expertise and localized building processes. As part of this residency, she will examine relevant archival materials at the CCA, and the findings will directly support her doctoral dissertation.
