Emi Yamanaka’s research interests include language pedagogy, interlanguage pragmatics, second language acquisition, and technology in language learning. She is the author of a few book chapters, including Pragmatic Notice through Web-based Collaborative Learning (in Japanese) (in Dai-ni Gengo Shutoku Kenkyu no Shin-tenkai, Tokyo: Kuroshio Publisher), Online Collaboration for Pragmatic Development (in Pragmatics: From Research to Practice, TESOL), Structure of Japanese Noun Modification and L2 Learners (in Japanese) (in Nihongo Kyoiku no Kosanten de, Tokyo: Keisuisha).  Prior to joining BU, she taught Japanese at Harvard University for 12 years.
