Xiaoshi Yu received her B.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from Shanghai International Studies University and a M.Ed. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Before joining BU, she taught Chinese at Harvard University for 11 years, where she has received the Harvard University Certificate of Excellence in Teaching from 2014-2022, when the award was discontinued. Xiaoshi also served as Resident Director at Harvard Beijing Academy (HBA) for the summer of 2019 and at Harvard Taipei Academy for the summer of 2023. She is experienced in teaching Chinese at all levels, as well as in developing and managing summer study abroad programs. Her research interests include bilingual education, second-language acquisition, educational psychology, language pedagogy, curriculum design, and study abroad program development.
