Exploring Hebrew
October – The Hebrew program hosted a workshop that focused on the Relationship between Islamic and Jewish Music through History. Students from various language programs attended this event. The presenter, an Israeli musician Tamr Machnai used a well prepared power point with authentic resources and also performed to demonstrate her points.
November – 40 Hebrew students attended three Israelis movies at the Boston Jewish Film Festival. Every year, students from the Hebrew program attend this film festival; this year we visited the Coolidge Corner cinema for three movies. One of the movies “In her footsteps” tied beautifully to the content of LH311 course “Voices in Israeli Society” where students could connect the contents of what they learning in class to what they had seen in the film. This event was well attended and brought students from all courses together
December – Students in the Hebrew Language Program were invited to Dean Elmore’s house for a Chanukka party and candle lightning. In the last five years students from the Hebrew program have been invited to Dean Elmore’s house to celebrate either the beginning of the year or a holiday. This year, we celebrated the second night of Chanukka with lightning the candle, songs and an Israeli dinner together.
