Stephanie Belinda Joseph

Ms. Stephanie B. Joseph is a doctoral candidate in educational leadership and policy studies at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. She’s a Roxbury, Mass., native and of Antiguan background. Stephanie is an advanced licensed professional school social worker/school adjustment counselor in Massachusetts, and her career has focused on social work and education for over 11 years.

Stephanie’s research focuses on the experiences of Black women teachers and their perceptions on what is needed to close the retention gap of Black women teachers in public school districts in Massachusetts. This study will include a semi-structured interview, a review of literature, and an analysis of the findings using the theoretical framework of Black feminist thought theory/Black feminist thought (BFTT/BFT). Her dissertation committee comprises Dr. Pipier Smith-Mumford, Dr. Ramon Gonzalez, and Dr. Ariel Tichnor-Wagner.

Stephanie is deeply committed to becoming an effective district leader and contributing to research studies regarding education as well as social-emotional learning. She is determined to help establish new educational policies and analyze district data, locally and nationally, to support the retention needs of educators of color to increase equitable standards in public schools, which has long-term impacts on Black and Brown students. She is affiliated with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
